Nitrax Mathematical Keyboard Windows App Privacy Policy

This privacy policy applies to the Windows companion app for the Nitrax Mathematical Keyboard, a compact physical keyboard with mathematical, Greek, and scientific symbols printed on blue and gray key layers.

Scope

This policy covers the Nitrax Mathematical Keyboard Windows app. It does not cover the Microsoft Store, the Nitrax website, or other Nitrax software with a separate privacy policy.

Keyboard input handling

While Math Mode is enabled, the app temporarily processes Windows keyboard event data, including key codes and modifier states, to determine whether an exact Nitrax key combination was used. Shift selects the gray printed layer; the unshifted combination selects the blue printed layer.

The app does not interpret the text being written, create a keystroke history, or store the keys or symbols typed. Events that do not match a supported Nitrax combination pass through unchanged. A recognized combination is converted locally into its corresponding Unicode symbol.

Data collected and not collected

The app does not require or create an account. It does not collect, store, sell, or transmit:

• pressed keys or a history of keystrokes;
• typed text, document content, or file names;
• analytics or telemetry;
• advertising or tracking data;
• personal or payment information.

Clipboard

The app does not read, write, overwrite, restore, or monitor the Windows clipboard. Recognized symbols are inserted through Windows Unicode keyboard input.

Local settings and diagnostics

The app keeps a local file named settings-v1.json. It contains the settings schema version, whether Math Mode is enabled, and whether the onboarding screen has been shown.

The “Start with Windows” preference is managed separately through the Windows StartupTask mechanism.

The app also writes small rotating local diagnostic logs. Each log entry contains only a UTC timestamp and a fixed operational event name, such as the application or keyboard service starting or stopping. The logs do not contain keys, typed symbols, text, document content, window titles, process names, or file paths.

For an installed Windows package, settings and logs remain in the package’s local Windows storage. When the app runs without package identity, it falls back to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Nitrax\MathKeyboard.

Other local Windows access

Before inserting a symbol, the app checks the integrity level of the active application locally. This allows it to explain when Windows blocks input into a more privileged application. It does not read the window title, process name, open document, or file.

The app can detect whether the earlier Nitrax Windows application is running or has a startup entry. If the user confirms removal of that old startup entry, the app deletes only that entry. It does not delete the earlier application’s executable or other files.

Network and third-party services

The app itself does not make network requests and does not include a network client, telemetry service, advertising tracker, or in-app updater.

Installation and updates are managed separately by Microsoft Store and are subject to Microsoft’s terms and privacy practices.

If the user chooses Help, the app opens a fixed Nitrax documentation URL in the default web browser. The browser then connects to the website, and that visit is covered by the website Privacy Policy.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new updated date.
